This route takes you through the valley of the River Meuse (Maas), south of the ancient city of Maastricht to the limestone plateau Mount St Peter (Pietersberg). The plateau used to be of great strategic importance. Now it has been designated a Natura 2000 site. Highlights of the route are its limestone caves and the historic centre of Maastricht.

You cycle via Maastricht's City Park to Mount St Peter where on clear days you get lovely views over Maastricht and the Meuse Valley. From Fort St Peter a steep climb takes you to Buitengoed Slavante. Here you can park your bike and follow a short signposted walk to Farmstead Lichtenberg and the ENCI Quarry. It is well worth the views! Back on your bike, a steep descent takes you over the border into Belgium. At Eijsden you cross the River Meuse by ferry. From Eijsden Castle you follow the east bank of the Meuse back into Maastricht.
