From the Belgian town of Bruges to the German border - Cycling along the North Sea Coast takes you along the varied coast of the North Sea and Wadden Sea. If you like island hopping you can opt for the alternative route over the Wadden Islands of Texel and Vlieland.
Please note:

From 1 April 2019 to 2025 the Afsluitdijk is closed for cyclists due to maintenance. A free bus service for you and your bike will be provided. For up-to-date information and alternative cycle route, see: Afsluitdijk closed for cyclists

From bustling seaside resorts and impressive harbours to sandy beaches and dune nature reserves. From the engineering masterpieces of the Delta Works to picturesque villages and grand estates - Cycling along the North Sea Coast takes you along the varied Dutch coast line.

Cycling along the North Sea Coast has two versions. The main route takes you over the famous 32-km long Afsluitdijk. The alternative route takes you island hopping to the Wadden Islands of Texel and Vlieland. This version can only be done in the summer season when the bike ferry between Texel and Vlieland runs.

Cycling along the North Sea Coast is not signposted or marked on cycle maps. The guide book Cycling along the North Sea Coast gives you maps and a description of the route in both directions. If your Dutch isn’t good enough to follow the description, we recommend using the guide book in combination with a detailed cycle map or the downloadable GPS tracks.
